Hey look, the smell of victory sometimes smells like nothing at all. Fragrance free matters, especially when you’re talking about what you put on your skin.
Why would we decide to go fragrance-free you ask?
We look to our good friend, science, who has established that fragrance in skincare products is the biggest reason for negative skin reactions. This rings true for all skin types, not just those with sensitive or redness-prone skin. We’re talking 30-45% of negative reactions – all from fragrance. This is according to the American Academy of Dermatology (AAD). Hell, it’s right up there with nickel and poison ivy. Yeah, we said “what the f*ck” too.
Which makes us ask, why is this allowed?
Fragrance is under-regulated by the Food & Drug Administration (FDA). It gets a “free pass” under the law. The individual components of fragrance aren’t required to be listed on labels. Writing “fragrance” is good enough. The only problem there is that fragrance could contain synthetic, preservative, or allergy-provoking substances. It’s no wonder that 30.5% of the general population report being irritated with scented products. For some, fragrance can trigger headaches. For others, fragrance can cause serious health problems, worsening lung issues, like Asthma or Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease. You get the gist.
Then there’s the pollution factor.
Waste water treatment only helps so much. It doesn’t remove the increasing amount of fragrance chemicals that accumulate in the environment. Think of fragranced laundry products – they pollute the water and the air. On top of that, many fragrances are not reef-safe. A chemical called Benzophenone-2, like Oxybenzone, is often found in fragrances, and it can kill juvenile corals fast. It also causes coral bleaching, which shortens the lifespan of corals. Yeah, we see the look.
At the end of the day, your skin is important and so is the environment.
That’s why we created our brand with both of those in mind, using only the good ingredients and leaving the bad ones out. You won’t find parabens, sulfates, phthalates, silicones, petroleum, mineral oil, Oxybenzone, artificial dyes, artificial colors, and of course fragrance, in our formulas. Want us to go on, ‘cause we can? We’ll spare ya. Now go out there, and choose to be fragrance-free.
